Edwin Levy was a long time professor of theater at the University of Denver where he directed 89 plays and 11 operas during his tenure. He directed the world premiere of the “Ballad of Baby Doe” at the Central City Opera. In the 1950s, he directed the popular Denver Post Operas in Cheesman Park for 11 seasons. He also directed at the Bonfils Theatre for the 1964-65 season.

Ed also directed 16 concert operas in New York’s Lincoln Center. Of special note: He wrote his Ph.D. dissertation on the history of Denver’s Elitch Theater. Listed in the Who’s Who in the American Theatre, he was also the recipient of the 1970 Larry Tajiri Award for the Performing Arts. He died at the age of 73 in 1990.
